A house fire at Isaacs Family Farms in Georgetown on Wednesday, Jan. 11, caused significant damage and snarled traffic on Route 113 for hours.
The fire was reported around 11:45 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene at the home, in the 26000 block of DuPont Boulevard (Route 113), to find heavy fire showing from the structure. The Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Millsboro, Ellendale, Milton and Blades fire companies, had the blaze under control by 12:54 p.m. The home was not occupied at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until about 2:30 p.m.
Deputies from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the blaze. Their investigation determined the fire was caused by an unknown electrical malfunction in the area of an electric space heater.
Damage to the structure is listed at approximately $75,000.
