The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) reminds Delawareans that the only open free flu shot event in Kent County during the 2008 flu season will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Avenue, Dover. Free flu shots will be available to those six months of age or older, regardless of income or health insurance coverage.   

It seems there are a lot of drivers in Delaware with a lead foot.  The results of the 2008 “Stop Aggressive Driving” campaign, being announced by the Office of Highway Safety, show that state, county and local law enforcement officers cited 2,737 drivers for speeding – several in excess of 100 mph - during a three month long effort to ‘stop speeding before it stops you.’

The Milford Bucs football team played in a fog for much of the first part of the Nov. 7 game against Lake Forest – both figuratively and literally.

Indecision by city officials is hindering economic development efforts, said outgoing Downtown Milford, Inc. president Mitch Crane during DMI’s annual meeting and board elections held Nov. 6.

A head-on collision near Frederica claimed six lives Monday afternoon, including four children, two of them just 5 years old.

According to the automobile association’s weekly survey of regional gas prices, the first gas station in Delaware to sell gas for under $2 a gallon this year was in Milford, and as gas prices kept falling, Milford has stayed at the head of the pack.

The next meeting of the Community Involvement Advisory Council (CIAC) will be held 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Smyrna Rest Area Conference Room, 5500 Dupont Parkway (U.S. Rt. 13), Smyrna.

The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve, a DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife facility, will hold the Mispillion Light Holiday Benefit from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The Center is located at 2992 Lighthouse Road, east of Milford.

Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore is offering a limited number of free respite sessions at Camp Fairlee Manor, outside of Chestertown, Md., for Delaware adults 18 years and older with physical disabilities who qualify. The sessions allow persons with disabilities to have fun and relax at an accessible camping facility, while giving caregivers a break from continuous care of loved ones.

Delaware Does More campaign, a winter-long collaboration, initiated by United Way of Delaware and the Food Bank of Delaware, to raise incremental resources to address an anticipated statewide spike in demand for assistance with food, shelter, and utilities is announcing their goals.
 

 With a goal of 900 blood donors in one day, the University of Delaware is hoping to chalk up its fifth win in the 7th annual CAA Blood Challenge on Nov. 12 from 7:30am to 8pm.  UD will hold the all-day blood drive in the Trabant University Center’s multipurpose rooms at 17 West Main Street in Newark.

Halloween weekend was hopefully less scary this year for Delaware’s driving public as officers arrested 47 people for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and removed the impaired drivers from state roadways.  The arrests were made at sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols conducted as part of a statewide enforcement effort coordinated by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS).  The Halloween DUI mobilization falls under the umbrella of OHS’s 2008 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign.

Delaware Law enforcement officers arrested 16 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol last weekend (Nov. 7 & 8).  This brings the total number of people arrested for DUI during the first 5 months of the 2008 “Checkpoint Strikeforce” campaign to 399.
