Visit the Milford Public Library located at 11 S.E. Front St., overlooking Library Square Park. The library is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Check out our website at www.milfordpubliclibrary.org. You can access the Delaware Library Catalog to reserve or renew materials, access your library card account, or just take a leisurely look at what is available at your Delaware libraries. Listen to the sounds of summer! Music in the Park continues every other Wednesday evening in Library Square Park at 7 p.m. July 1 – Don Chappell with “Sinatra Sounds” – July 17 – Smooth Sound Dance Band.  Don’t forget your lawn chair!

The library will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

The Library Book Club will discuss The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein on Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m. There will be no Tuesday afternoon discussions in July and August. Due to library construction, discussions will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, across the street from the library.

New on DVD: Defiance, starring Daniel Craig, is based on the true story of the Bielski brothers, simple farmer-outnumbered and outgunned –who turned a group of war refugees into powerful freedom fighters. New in Town, starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr., tells the story of a high-powered Miami exec who agrees to move to Minnesota to work on a project she hopes will snag her a big promotion. Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, is the story of a young, passionate couple who decide to risk everything to follow their dreams.

Sisters that read together….Sisters and Husbands by Connie Briscoe reintroduces Beverly, Charmaine, Evelyn; three sisters living outside D.C. It is now 15 years later and one sister is planning her wedding while another sister’s marriage is falling apart.  The Story Sisters by Alice Hoffman is a family saga that asks the questions: What does a mother do when one of her children goes astray? How does she save one daughter without sacrificing the others? How deep can love go, and how far can it take you?

There is a new parking lot available for library patrons across from the library, next to Bay Pharmacy. The parking lot will be paved and landscaped at a later date.

Join us in June for Storyhour every Tuesday morning at 10:30a.m. Come see our caterpillars turn into butterflies and our tadpoles turn into frogs! There will be no afternoon Storyhour in June, July, or August.

Learn to knit, crochet, and more during “Sit & Knit” every Friday in June at 11:00a.m. If you have knitting needles or crochet hooks, please bring them with you. Fun needlecrafts for kids ages 7-14.

We’re having a “Dance party” on Wednesday, July 1, at 4:00p.m. Do the Macarana, the Chicken Dance and more. Come join the FUN!

Storyteller Michael Forestieri gets creative at the library on Tuesday, July 7 at 10:30a.m.  Children of all ages will be entertained and delighted! Support for this program is made possible by collaboration between the Delaware Division of the Arts and the Delaware Division of Libraries.

Milford Public Library presents “Cover Art”, a youth art contest for ages 3-18.
Create an original cover design for one of your favorite books! Win Prizes, Certificates and Special Awards! All entries must be in the library before 8p.m. on Friday, July 10. Cover Art will be judged on creativity, imagination and originality. Awards will be presented at the Summer Reading Finale Talent Showcase on Friday, July 31 at 7:00p.m.

Showcase your artistic abilities at the Be Creative @ Your Library Art Show on Saturday, July 18, from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.  Bring your original work of art (drawing, painting, poetry, needlework, sculpture…..) to the library on or before Thursday, July 16.

Gotta sing, gotta dance…Join the Be Creative @ Your Library Talent Show on Friday, July 31, at 7:00p.m. Come sing, dance, play an instrument, recite a poem, or do whatever it is you do on stage at the Riverfront Theater on the Mispillion River, Main St., Milford.

Toddle on over to the library for “Toddler Time” every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Toddler Time offers a first literary experience for children ages 1 & 2 where toddlers and caregivers can make friends, sing songs, perform action and movement rhymes, make crafts, and have lots of FUN!

The 2009 Summer Library Reading Program, “Be Creative @ Your Library” is an individual reading incentive program for children newborn to age 16.  The program was developed to encourage children to read; to help students retain reading skills during the summer; and to develop a life-long adventure with reading.


Registration for the 2009 summer reading program is open through July 18.  All CK’s will receive activity sheets, a program calendar, a bookmark and a reading log.  Record the amount of time you read by coloring in/crossing out the pictures on your reading/time log.  *Everyone who reads for TEN HOURS will receive a certificate signed by Governor Markell, a complimentary book from the Delaware Division of Libraries, and a special gift from the Milford Public Library.  **Reading incentive prizes are awarded throughout the summer.  Just bring your reading log to the library and pick out a prize!  Reading logs must be returned to the library on or before July 25 to receive prizes.  There will be many music, art, dance and other programs presented throughout the summer. The Delaware Division of Libraries and the Delaware Division of Arts sponsor special library programs throughout the summer. Other programs presented throughout the summer are sponsored by Friends of the Milford Public Library and Milford Public Library.
*The reading program is also a read-to-me program for pre-school aged children.
**Prizes will be awarded for every 5 (FIVE) hours you read!

Show your child’s love of reading, their love of the library and their love of art. Children may express themselves through painting…on a tile to be a permanent part of the New Expanded Children’s Library. Tiles will be available for $25 each. Call the library, 422-8996, to reserve a tile for your child, grandchild, niece, nephew or any other child you know and love.
