Milford Parks & Recreation will begin its fall program with the annual Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick Contest for boys and girls ages 8 to 15, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Marvel Square Park, on Southeast 2nd Street. There is no fee to participate, and sign-ups will be held that morning.
Registration for Parks & Rec’s fall sports will also be held the morning of Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon, and will continue until the programs start or all slots are filled. Registrations will be accepted at the Parks & Rec office at 207 Franklin St., off Southeast Second Street. For children’s programs, grade requirements are for the 2009-2010 school year. All ages are as of Oct. 31.

Youth soccer programs for kids K-6
Youth soccer programs are open to all students, boys and girls alike, going into kindergarten through sixth grade. Players will get as much training as possible through small-sided games that allow each child to get a lot of touches every session. All games will be played at the Lulu Ross Elementary School soccer fields. Children in kindergarten through second grade will play on Saturday mornings, third- and fourth-graders on Sunday afternoons, and fifth- and sixth-graders on Saturday afternoons. There will be one practice a week. Registration costs $40. Players must be at least five years old by Oct. 31.
Register for adult softball league
Teams can register for the next season of adult softball starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8. Teams must register a manager or contact person along with their team name or sponsor and a $100 deposit against the $350 registration fee. Only the first 12 teams to make a deposit will be registered. Play begins in mid-August. A full list of league rules and requirements will be provided upon registration.
Pick-up girls’ soccer league every Sunday
Girls in seventh to 10th grades can sign up for pick-up games every Sunday afternoon at the Lulu Ross Elementary School soccer fields. Registration costs $25. All players must wear shin guards, and players with braces must have mouth guards.
Elks Lodge soccer shoot
The Milford Elks Lodge will hold a soccer shoot on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. at Lulu Ross Elementary School. There is no registration fee, and the shoot is open to boys and girls. There will be divisions for children under 8, ages 8 to 12 and ages 12 to 14.
Field hockey open to grades 1 to 6
A field hockey program will be open for students going into the first through sixth grades. Registration costs $40.
Instructional flag football play
There will be an instructional flag football program held for 6- and 7-year-olds starting Sept. 19 at Marvel Square Park, next to the Parks & Recreation building. Players will learn the fundamentals of the game through football drills and activities. Registration costs $40 per player.
Indoor swimming lessons
Children ages 3 to 6 can learn to swim at the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club swimming pool. This program will be held in September, October and November, and costs $45 per student.
Adult volleyball league
Adults 20 and older can register for the fall volleyball league. There will be two five-week sessions, each with pick-up games every Thursday night at the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club. Registration costs $40 for one session and is limited to 16 people.
Penny drop fund-raiser ongoing
Parks & Rec is continuing its “Penny Drop” fund-raiser to raise money for youth programs. The goal is to fill at least four water jugs with pennies; so far one and a half are finished. Please take the time to search your house for your penny jar and bring it into the Parks & Rec office at 207 Franklin St.
