Bayhealth offers blood pressure program

Bayhealth Medical Center offers its blood pressure clinic program weekly. 

Free blood pressure screenings are held from 9 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday at Kent General Hospital and from 9 to 11 a.m. each Thursday at Milford Memorial Hospital.

Bayhealth offers free Steps to Healthy Aging Clinics

Bayhealth Medical Center will offer the Steps to Healthy Aging Clinics as an opportunity for you to meet one-on-one with a registered nurse from Bayhealth’s Education Department to confidentially monitor your blood pressure, pulse and weight, and to discuss any health topic of concern to you. 

Clinics will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. every Thursday in Room 206 on the second floor of the Grier Building adjacent to Milford Memorial Hospital.

Clinics will also be held every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. in Dr. John Mannion’s office, Suite 101 A on the first floor of the Medical Office Building at 540 S. Governors Ave.

MS support groups

Here is a list of support and social groups for Delawareans with MS.

Dover

Men with MS is held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of the month at the Comfort Suites Hotel, 1654 N. DuPont Highway. For more information, call 800-FIGHT-MS or Regina at 734-8749.

Kent Lunch Bunch meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month, at accessible restaurants in Dover. To join, call Regina at 734-8749.

Georgetown

Sussex Shore Group Two meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the CHEERS Community Center, 20520 Sandhill Road. For more information, call Kay at 422-9584 or Jamie at 684-4513.

Harbeson

Shore Group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in St. George’s Chapel, Parish Hall. For more information, call Jamie or Monroe at 684-4513.

Support group for survivors of accidents and murder

The Mental Health Association of Delaware in conjunction with People’s Place is offering a monthly support group for people who have lost a family member, friend or co-worker to a sudden and violent death. The Survivors of Accident or Murder support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in Milford. The next meeting is Dec. 9. The meetings are confidential, but registration is required by calling 422-8026, ext. 116. The meetings are held at People’s Place in Milford.



Breastfeeding classes and support groups at Bayhealth

Bayhealth Medical Center offers the following free breastfeeding classes and support groups:

•Breastfeeding Class: meets at Milford Memorial Hospital from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month in the ABC Conference Room, and at Kent General Hospital the first Wednesday of every month in the General Foods Conference Room. The next meeting is Dec. 2.

•Breastfeeding Support Group: meets at Kent General Hospital from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the 6th Floor Women’s Services Conference Room A & B. The next meeting is Dec. 9.

Registration is required for these free classes, which are taught and facilitated by a board-certified lactation consultant. To register or for more information, call

Breast cancer support is available

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Peer Mentor Support Program for Breast Cancer provides free one-on-one support and education to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. DBCC Peer Mentors are trained breast cancer survivors who wish to reach out to help and support others with breast cancer. If you are newly diagnosed, are currently in treatment, are experiencing a recurrence or are a long-term survivor who needs someone to talk to, our peer mentors are here to help you. They can also offer support to spouse, partners, family members and caregivers.

Bayhealth offers free diabetes screenings

About 66,000 Delawareans are believed to have diabetes, but only 45,000 have been diagnosed.  You may not have diabetes, but would you bet your life on it?

Find out for sure at a free screening. Bayhealth Medical Center offers free diabetes screenings from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the following locations:

Kent General Hospital Outpatient Services Department, 640 S. State St., Dover

Milford Memorial Hospital Outpatient Services Department, 21 W. Clarke Ave., Milford

Total joint replacement class

Bayhealth’s total joint replacement classes at Kent General and Milford Memorial hospitals familiarize patients scheduled for a total joint replacement with the expected plan of care.  The class includes a tour of the nursing unit and inpatient therapy department. 

Classes meet from 9 to 11 a.m. on select Tuesdays each month at Kent General Hospital. To register, call Terry Towne at Bayhealth’s Education Department at 744-7135 or at 877-453-7107.

Classes also meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays in the Total Joint Center’s Community Room on the second floor of Milford Memorial Hospital.  To register, call the Total Joint Center at 430-5600.



Bayhealth Ostomy Support Group

Bayhealth Medical Center offers an Ostomy support group for people with ostomies and their caregivers.

The support group will meet to review new products, discuss new management techniques, support and problem-solving. Occasional speakers will also join the group on special topics. The group will be led by Bayhealth nurse Karen Merson, BSN, RN, CWOCN.

The support group meets in the Education Center Conference Room located at 208 W. Water St. in Dover from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Wellness Community offers Monday morning yoga class

The Wellness Community-Delaware is now offering a weekly Monday morning Yoga class open to anyone who has been touched by cancer. Caregivers and family members are welcome. This program, facilitated by Marianne Wolskee, a certified yoga instructor, will teach us the yoga philosophy as well as lead us in some light exercises and yoga techniques that have been shown to boost the immune system and help manage stress. Practicing yoga and doing some light stretching and exercising can help you get past negative thoughts and introduce thought processes that help you heal. Doing this regularly, for as little as 15 minutes a few times a week can help you feel better. Mats and supplies are provided and there is no experience necessary.

Bayhealth introduces Hepatitis C support group

Bayhealth Medical Center will be hosting the new Hepatitis C support group. The group is designed for Kent County residents seeking information on the disease. 

The support group will meet in the Education Center Conference Room located at 208 W. Water St., in Dover from 7 to 8 p.m.
