Digital 900 AM, one of the largest Spanish-language radio stations in the state, is sponsoring a four-day festival at the Riverwalk Shopping Center, with music, food and rides from Thursday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 23.
The parking lot of the Riverwalk Center, across Northeast Front Street from Bicentennial Park, will act as a fairground for the weekend.
Danny Perez, general manager of Digital 900, said he has helped organize similar festivals in the Georgetown area for years, and is aiming for a full-blown fair atmosphere, with rides, a wide variety of food and vendors and live entertainment including music, clowns and a comedian performing on stage and in walk-through areas. He said he’s hoping to bring families from many cultures together in one large-scale event.
“The main purpose is to unite the city,” Perez said at a Milford City Council meeting. “We’re trying to get families out and having fun together.”
In addition to corporate sponsors like Perdue Farms, the festival is supported by Grandparents United, Inc., a non-profit that tries to bring families and communities together for the sake of children.
To that end, there will be information stands for a wide variety of community groups and non-profits to spread the word about the services and support networks they provide for members of the Milford community.
The festival will stretch over four days, starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at noon on Saturday and Sunday. The grounds will be open until 10 p.m. every day except Sunday, when they will close down at 6 p.m.
It’s a longer run than most Milford festivals. Perez said the longer run was the best way to get the rides’ owners and operators to sign on.
Live entertainment will be held mainly in the evenings starting at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, respectively, and running until 9 p.m. every evening.
