“It was like going someplace in the city. It was a real classy looking place. (It was) a high-dollar type thing — something we weren’t used to here. ... I graduated from high school there in 1955. That was a big moment.”
Richard Willey, 76, Milford Senior Center employee
“You could get in for 12 cents per ticket if you were under 12. I got in at the kids price until I turned 14 and I had started growing a beard. Then the lady said, ‘Hey sir, when are you going to shave?’ ... The older kids, they would be in the balcony necking and hugging each other. (The balcony) was good for that.”
Tollie Johnson, 88, Milford Senior Center volunteer greeter
“The Delaware premiere of ‘Gone With the Wind’ was held there, and it was just fabulous. There was an intermission, and when everybody stood up, I was crying so hard at the movie, I was embarrassed. When Clark Gable said he ‘didn’t give a damn,’ everybody said, ‘Oh!” Everybody was there; it was the thing to do. It was really something to have a premiere in town.”
