Holiday fun in Milford doesn’t end with the Holiday Stroll. On Saturday, Dec. 6, downtown Milford will come alive for People’s Day, the town’s annual festival highlighting the services it offers to the community.

“It’s just such a great hometown event, and what makes it so successful for us is how the community keeps getting more involved,” said Brenda Biessel, of People’s Place, which takes the lead organizing People’s Day every year. “It gets bigger and bigger each year, with more and more groups doing bigger and better things.”

People’s Day celebrates the businesses, entertainment and community service available in Milford with a day of food, business events, Christmas attractions and live entertainment. It kicks off with People’s Place’s annual choral breakfast at the Milford Senior Center.

From 8-11 a.m., visitors can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast, listen to live music or browse a variety of vendors, the People’s Day poinsettia sale and the senior center’s own thrift shop. Santa Claus will make an appearance, fresh from the Santa House on Walnut Street.

“It’s going to be a packed house — I’ve already run out of space for the vendors,” Biessel said. “That’s a good problem to have.”

Tickets to the breakfast cost $6 for adults and $3 for children 3-12. Children under 3 get in free, and entertainment-only tickets also run $3.

Businesses across downtown will have special sales and promotions running throughout the day. Customers can find everything from raffles to free adult admission at the Milford Skating Center, while the Milford Museum will be open 10 a.m.-4p.m. with its annual holiday exhibits.

One of the biggest events won’t be downtown at all. The Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club will hold a “Family Fun Day” carnival at the club building on Airport Road from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Attractions include children’s games, a moon bounce and another visit from Santa.

“The Boys & Girls Club has always been part of People’s Day, but they only had so much space they could use for it,” Biessel said. “Now, with that great big building they have out there, they have so much more space.”

The evening ends with performances of two Christmas classics. The Second Street Players will stage their Christmas musical, “Babes in Toyland,” at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Meanwhile Milford High School will host the annual Diamond Dance Company performances of “The Nutcracker,” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
