  • The Milford Historical Society recently received a $10,000 grant from the Friends of Rockwood, a New Castle County-based organization.
The Milford Historical Society, a non-profit that operates the Parson Thorne Mansion, will use the funds for the restoration of the second floor east bedroom in the mansion.
The Friends of Rockwood grant funds are available to Delaware house museums that include a Victorian-era theme, like the Parson Thorne.
The Milford Historical Society has already painted the exterior of the mansion to match historical colors used during the Victorian era.
The paint color to be applied in the second-floor east bedroom will match what would have been used, as determined by painting consultant Catherine Adams Masek of Severna Park, Md., in her paint analysis work on the Parson Thorne. A historic replica of Victorian-era wallpaper, window treatments and furnishings also will be added to complete the period interpretation of the bedroom.
