  • Mispillion River Brewing will kick off its 2014 Beer Olympics with a ceremonial lighting of the trash barrel on Saturday.
The Beer Olympics is a free event that will run from noon to 5 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to register for events including yard pong, a keg toss, the can shot put, a greased watermelon relay, the world’s shortest boat race, and ice block melting. Individual events start at 1p.m., and the winners will receive medals.
Additionally, the brewery is releasing Warhead, an imperial cherry Berliner Weiss, to bottles only. What originated as a tart German wheat beer has now transformed into a monstrously sour imperial ale complemented by tart cherries from Jim Passwaters' farm.
Pints of beer will be available for purchase and Mr. BBQ will be serving up delicious sandwiches.
As with all Mispillion events, the Brewery is asking that people bring a canned donation for the Food Bank of Delaware.
