Dover woman arrested, Cheswold man sought on drug, weapons charges

A Dover woman, identified as Erika Deputy, has been jailed by Harrington Police on drug and weapons charges, and officers are looking to find a man who escaped after they stopped Deputy’s car.

Harrington officers stopped Deputy, 21, at 1:21 a.m. Aug. 16 for having tinted windows as she was driving on South Dupont Highway near Gordon Street, said Harrington Police Department spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode.

When officers discovered Deputy was wanted out of Kent County Superior Court, they also ordered her passenger, identified as Shannon Johnson, 31, of Cheswold, from the car. Instead, Johnson ran off down South Dupont Highway. Officers were unable to catch him, Brode said.

A search of Deputy’s vehicle turned up a .22-caliber handgun, 15 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Deputy, 21, was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana with an aggravating factor, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle with improper window tinting.

She was jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institute in a $5,201 secured bond for the drug and weapons charges and an additional $5,000 cash bond for a charge of violation of probation.

Anyone with information as to Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to call Harrington Police at 398-4493, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-347-3333.
