A Harrington man, identified as Benne Singletary, 32, of the 2700 block of Killens Pond Road, has been arrested after police found a large amount of cash and six plastic bags containing heroin in his car during a traffic stop.

A Harrington officer stopped Singletary for a traffic violation Aug. 7 on Brasher Lane, near Corn Crib Road, said department spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode.

While searching for paperwork requested by the officer, Singletary opened the glove box, allowing the officer to spot what was later found to be $3,300 in cash. The money was in plain view, Brode said.

After receiving permission to search the vehicle, the officer found the baggies, which were found to contain 0.012 grams of heroin. Singletary was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with possessing or consuming a controlled substance with an aggravating factor, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Singletary later was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
