Two Kent County men were arrested last week for allegedly shoplifting at Redner’s Warehouse Markets in Georgetown.
Houston resident Tykwan James, 34, and Dover resident Benjamin Hickman, 25, were arrested on July 17 after Redner’s employees reported the registration number and description of a vehicle the two suspects allegedly fled in after shoplifting, said Georgetown Police Department spokesman Lt. Lawrence Grose.
About an hour after police received the shoplifting complaint, officers located the described vehicle in the parking lot of County Seat Apartments with both suspects inside the vehicle, Grose said.
Police contacted the two men and found the alleged stolen items in the vehicle, Grose said.
Police also located three hypodermic syringes, and James admitted that they had sold the stolen items to purchase heroin, which James said they injected before police arrived, Grose said.
James and Hickman are charged with shoplifting, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men were committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $2,500 secured bond each.
