  • After about a year of diligent work, Milford Museum Executive Director Claudia Leister soon will be ready to unveil a new hands-on experience at the downtown museum.
A new interactive kiosk, funded by a grant from the Milford Lions Club, will allow visitors to pick and choose how they want to experience Milford’s history.
“Technology is the way that this next generation is learning things, and hands-on exhibits are always more memorable, especially to younger people,” Leister said.
The free-standing kiosk has a touch-screen panel on the top, and visitors will have the opportunity to explore lessons on the Milford Museum, Milford’s history, places, people, exhibits and become familiar with history lessons outside of the museum that they can visit when they’re done.
Leister has sifted through more than 3,500 photos in the museum’s collection to match the best visuals for each concept. She said she has learned a lot through the experience, and hopes that the short presentations will provide enough information to hold visitors’ attention and leave them with new knowledge about their hometown.
Each selection provides a two-minute journey into Milford’s history, and Leister hopes that it will provide visitors, especially school groups, an entertaining and concise way to gather information.
“It’s long enough to tell the story, but short enough for someone to stand there and watch it,” she said.
The interactive kiosk will be unveiled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 15. For more information about the new display or the Milford Museum, call 424-1080 or stop by 121 S. Walnut St. in Milford.
