A 38-year-old Magnolia man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled from police and resisted arrest after Milford officers saw him speeding on Del. Route 1.
William S. Robbins was seen speeding southbound on Del. Route 1 on July 8 when he refused to obey a Milford police officers signal to stop his vehicle, said Milford Police Department spokesman Detective Dwight Young.
Delaware State Police assisted the officer and Robbins stopped his vehicle on Del. Route 1 in the area of Brick Granary Road just outside of Slaughter Neck/Lincoln. He initially refused to exit the vehicle, Young said, and continued to struggle with officers when they removed him from the vehicle.
Milford police tasered Robbins, who continued to struggle, and then broke free and fled on foot. He jumped over a guard rail into a nearby marsh, Young said.
The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit and Delaware State Police K9 and patrol units assisted Milford police in the search throughout the evening of July 8 and the morning of July 9.
During the afternoon on July 9, police received information that Robbins had been seen in the area of Pine Haven Road in Slaughter Neck. Milford police, assisted by the Milton Police Department and Delaware State Police, responded to the area where Robbins was found on a nearby road and arrested.
Robbins was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries from insects and being in the marsh.
Young said an investigation revealed that Robbins hid the whole time in the marsh and waterway to avoid capture.
Robbins is charged with felony disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, two counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, driving while suspended/revoked and other traffic offenses. Police also found Robbins had active warrants out of various courts.
He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $6,502 secured bond.
