A 67-year-old Millsboro man is in critical condition after a serious motorcycle crash south of Greenwood on Sunday evening.
John M. Hodgson, who was not wearing a helmet, was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the southbound left lane of U.S. Route 13 south of Cart Branch Road when he struck the left rear of a 2008 Ford F-150 in front of him shortly after 9 p.m., said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
After hitting the truck, operated by 66-year-old Charles Lofland of Seaford, Hodgson lost control and the motorcycle fell on its side, ejecting him onto the ground. The Harley and Hodgson came to an uncontrolled stop in the median just east of the left lane. After impact, the truck continued south and pulled in to the grass median, Fournier said.
Fournier said it is unclear why the motorcycle hit the truck.
Lofland and three adult passengers were all wearing seat belts and uninjured in the crash.
Hodgson was initially taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being flown to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition, Fournier said.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation of the crash. U.S. Route 13 south of Cart Branch Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
