There’s some good news for softball fans and for the state of Delaware!
The 2014 Little League Big League and Senior Softball World Series are scheduled for August 3rd-9th, at the Lower Sussex Little League Complex in Roxana, Delaware. The tournaments are sponsored in part by grants from the Delaware Tourism Office and the Carl M. Freeman Foundation.
According to Roy Lamberton, Director of Media Relations for the 2014 Little League Softball World Series in Delaware, there’s more good news, “The ESPN Family of Networks will broadcast both of Friday's Little League Softball World Series Semi-Finals and Saturday's Final games from Bruce Layton Field in Sussex County,” said Lamberton, “This is a win-win for Little League softball and for ESPN, getting both World Series being played at the same time and same location at a very good facility.”
Lamberton said having both World Series in Roxana last year had a positive economic impact of about $2-million for the State of Delaware.
“The Senior Softball Semi-Final games with the top team in each pool facing the #2 team in the opposite pool, are scheduled to be broadcast on Friday, August 8th with Game #21 telecast on ESPN 2 at 10:00 a.m. and Game 23 telecast on ESPN-U at 1:00 PM.”
The Senior Softball Championship Game on Saturday, August 9th will be on ESPN at Noon featuring the winners of Friday's semi-finals.
Lamberton said the Big League World Series TV schedule for Friday August 8th will be as follows:
with Game 22 on ESPN-U at 4:00 PM and Game 23 carried by ESPN-U at 7:00 PM.
The Big League Softball Championship Game on Saturday, August 9th will be on ESPN 2 at 5 PM featuring the winners of Friday's semi-finals.
Lamberton said last year's telecasts of the Championship Games were among the highest rated Little League World Series games shown on the network.
The Central team from South Bend, Indiana defeated the Europe & Africa team from Lombardia LL, Milano , Italy in the Senior Softball final and in the Big League Final, the District 3 Host team from Sussex County prevailed over Latin America to win the first Big League World Series held at Roxana.
According to World Series Director Martin Donovan, "The increase in the number television of games this year demonstrates the interest that the two World Series in Sussex County has nationally."
Lamberton added that the Little League Senior Softball World Series has been played in Roxana since 2004 and first began play in 1976. “This is the 11th year in Delaware and the 38th year overall,” he said. “The Big League Softball World Series moved to Sussex County last year,” he said.
