  • Downtown Milford, Inc. has announced it will launch Phase 2 of the Art on the Riverwalk Tour Project next month.
Phase 2 of the project, dubbed “Launching Augusta: The Next Fleet,” consists of another six boats to be designed by local artists, and will be unveiled on June 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Abbott’s Grill in Milford.
“It's going to be exciting to see the new boats,” said Lee Nelson, executive director of DMI. “The artists have done a great job. Each one is unique and showcases our branding of River Town. Art Town. Home Town.”
The program includes the unveiling of the boats and the artists’ introduction. Abbott's Grill has donated the location and Abbott's Bounty to nibble on and a cash bar will be available. Tickets cost $12 for adults (children younger than 13 are admitted for free) and are only available online at http://downtownmilford.org/art-project/art-project-launching-event-tickets.
The ART Project consists of 4-foot sculptures of the classic yacht Augusta built by Milford’s Vinyard Boat Yard in 1927. The “Second Fleet” brings the total to 12 and will be displayed permanently along the Mispillion River and, if funding is available, the last six will be in place next year.
This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts. ART is also partially funded by a grant from Dogfish Head Brewery.
