  • A 42-year-old Dover man was recently arrested in connection with multiple tire slashings in the Milford area.
Morris L. Simms III was arrested April 15, after detectives discovered that Simms allegedly traveled through the parking lots of Ruby Tuesday, Walmart, Burger King, Dollar Tree and the Milford Diner on foot and would slash the tires of unoccupied vehicles, said Milford Police Department spokesman Detective Dwight Young.
Young said that after slashing the tires, Simms would sometimes water for the vehicle owners to return and offer help in exchange for a fee.
Simms allegedly slashed the tires of vehicles belonging to 12 different victims between March 20 and April 7, Young said.
Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said Simms was arrested April 15 after allegedly puncturing a tire on a vehicle in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant in North Dover. He was charged with a single count of criminal mischief, then turned over to Milford authorities, who already had issued a notice identifying him as a suspect in their jurisdiction.
Simms was charged with 12 counts of criminal mischief under $1,000 and seven counts of theft by false pretense. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $1,300 secured bond.
