Milford boys edged Smyrna, but the Smyrna girls ran past the Lady Bucs Thursday afternoon in high school track & field.
The Milford boy’s track team slipped past Smyrna 77-69 Thursday, on a beautiful, sunny spring afternoon. However, the girls’ team had a tough day, losing to The Lady Eagles 107.5 to 29.5.
Buccaneer’s Ryan Thomas had another outstanding day, winning the 100-Meter Dash in 11.1. In addition, Thomas swept the three jumping events, winning the Long Jump with a leap of 22-11.5, the Triple Jump in 44-8.5 and the High Jump with a jump of 5-6. Kaelan Curry won the Pole Vault by jumping 11-0.
Smyrna was able to keep the meet close thanks to the work of Gabe Mojica and their relay teams. Mojica won the 800 M-Run in 2:10.9, and the 1600 M-Run. Mojica was also part of the winning 3200 Relay with Olu Ibironke, Moses Carter, and Adam Bailey; and the 1600 Relay with Tarun Persaud, Moses Carter and Aleyyo Monsanto.
Smyrna’s Smith won the Shot Put with a toss of 45-1 and also the Discus with a throw of 121-8.
Milford’s boys are now 3-2 on the season. The Smyrna boys also have a 3-2 record in Dual Meets.
On the girls’ side, Smyrna’s veteran team had an easy day with a young Milford squad.
The Lady Bucs Davida Johnson won the 100 M Dash in 13.0, and Shadiya Lowery won the shot out with a toss of 30-2.
Meanwhile, Senior Tori Vickers won the 1600 in 5:44.5, and helped the 3200 Relay team to victory. Senior Raven Luckett won the 200 M Dash as well as the Long Jump and the High Jump.
The Lady Buccaneers now have a record of 2-3. The Smyrna girls are 5-0 on the season.
