A 36-year-old Clayton man was arrested in Milford today after allegedly strangling a 25-year-old woman in a Milford motel room yesterday.
The Milford Police Department responded to a Travelers Inn Motel on March 26 after receiving a report of a domestic dispute, said Milford Police Department spokesman Detective Dwight Young.
Police contacted a 25-year-old female victim, who had suffered injuries to her face during the dispute, Young said.
A police investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Clayton resident Joshua Roussell, punched the victim in her head and face during a dispute in one of the motel’s rooms, Young said.
Roussell then strangled the woman until she passed out. When the victim regained consciousness, she tried to call 911, but Roussell took her cell phone and broke it, Young said.
Roussell then poured alcoholic beverages on the victim’s head, took her property and fled the scene, Young said.
The victim was transported to Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released, Young said.
Roussell was arrested the following day, March 27, by Milford police.
He was charged with strangulation, third-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault, theft under $1,000, criminal mischief under $1,000 and malicious interference with emergency communications.
Roussell was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $8,500 secured bond.
