Milford School District officials announced the eighth snow day of the year this morning. While officials have found two professional development days to make up for snow day overages, this additional day may extend the district's school year for students and staff.
State offices in Kent and Sussex counties also announced complete closure for March 17. Essential employees are still to report to work. New Castle County offices are expected to open at 10 a.m. Milford City offices are also closed.
A Winter Storm Warning for the area remains in effect until noon today. According to DelDOT, since the beginning of the storm Sunday night, Harrington has accumulated 6.8 inches of snow and Ellendale has 7 inches. An exact measurement for Milford was not immediately available.
Hazardous driving conditions are expected during the snow storm, according to the National Weather Service, with visibility at 0.5 miles or less at times. Temperatures are expected to range in the 20s, with winds coming from the northeast at 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.
Additional local business closures include: Avenue Preschool, The Milford Senior Center, Fur-Baby Boutique, Dolce, the Music School of Delaware's Milford branch and Food Bank of Delaware's Milford branch.
