Padua Academy’s balanced offense and rugged, physical defense led the Pandas to an exciting, 49-40 road victory over Milford on Thursday night, in the second round of the DIAA girls’ state tournament.

Both teams showed early jitters, as Padua led only 7-3 after the first period.

Once the second quarter began, both offenses kicked into high gear. With the score 11-8 in favor of Padua in the second period, the Pandas went on a 10-0 run, to increase their advantage to 21-8. The Lady Bucs then hit two baskets and a free throw, but the Pandas went 3-4 from the charity strip to maintain a double digit lead of 26-15 at the half.

Play was fairly even in the third quarter as Padua pulled further ahead to lead 37-25 with one period remaining.
