A local middle school student was arrested Feb. 24 after the 13 year old allegedly brought a knife on a WT Chipman Middle School bus.

Harrington police were summed to WT Chipman Feb. 24 after the bus driver found a knife on a seat on the bus after the students had exited the bus, said police spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode.

The knife was a small kitchen knife, with a three-inch blade, Brode said.

When police arrived at the school, staff were already speaking to the 13-year-old suspect, who resides in Houston, Brode said.

The student was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a weapon in a safe school zone.

The boy was arraigned via video phone at Kent County Family Court and was issued a $5,000 unsecured bond and released to the custody of his parents.
