A determined gang of Milford wrestlers are now the champions of the DIAA Division-Two after dethroning defending champion St. Georges 42-20 Tuesday night after a very exciting afternoon and evening of high quality wrestling at Smyrna High School.Milford advanced to the tournament finals after knocking off Lake Forest 44-16 in the semifinals.

In the title round, the Buccaneers got out of the gate early, winning their first two matches by pins, as Barton Dalious (132 pounds) and John Badger (138) defeated the Hawks Tony Immediato and Raymond Brock. Myron Price (145) won a close decision over Dominic Susi, and Chase Taylor (152) pinned Patrick King at 2:55.

"Getting off to that fast start certainly helped our momentum, said Milford coach Dan Rigby. "We were well prepared, as we knew we would have a tough match against another good team, we had every scenario planned out, so we knew we would be ready," he said.

With the score 21-0, St. Georges' (160) Joe Tharp, Chase Walls, and Rocco Hladney (182) all won their matches to give the Hawks a glimmer of hope.

"After the coin toss, they got the momentum early, and we fought back later on, but we couldn't get it all back," said Hawks coach Nate Pellegrini.

But the Bucs would not be denied on this frigid February evening. Milford would go on to win four of the next five matches, so by the time Jarek Lugo defeated Anthony Donovan 4-0 in the 132 pound match, the Bucs had wrapped up the Division Two wrestling title.
