Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath says he is currently suffering from health problems which he believes are the result of football-induced head injuries.
During an interview which will air during this week's CBS Sunday Morning (as reported by New York Daily News) Namath reveals, "I've been some through some things medically. I've seen some things on my brian. But I've had some treatment - and I've improved."
How to lose the Super Bowl
Namath is the latest NFL player to speak out about the serious side effects caused by concussions suffered while playing football. These head injuries have been linked to memory loss, dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease.
"None of the body was designed to play football. Excuse me, you know, football, we're just not designed for," Namath says.
The NFL recently reached a $765 million settlement with over 4,500 former players and their families who sued the league, but a federal judge shot down the payout for being insufficient funds to cover medical exams, research, legal fees and compensation.
