Courageous Hearts Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning Center has received funding from the state to continue its Equine Assisted Learning after-school programming for Kent and Sussex county children.

Funding is provided by the Gov. Jack Markell’s initiative to increase after-school activities, and funding comes from the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families.

The after-school programming at Courageous Hearts is a collaborative effort that includes a licensed mental health professional, a horse specialist and a horse(s) to address learning goals. It involves setting up ground activities that will require the group to apply certain skills such as non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem-solving.

The winter/spring session is set to begin from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from the last week of January to mid-May. Refreshments are included.
