  • An 11-year-old Caesar Rodney student was hit by a passing motorist after getting off the bus at the intersection of Wynsome Knolls Boulevard and Willow Grove Road between 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. today, according to Wyoming Police Chief Martin Willey.
The incident occurred when Janice Sofnowski-Nichol, of Camden failed to stop for the bus, which was stopped and had its lights flashing. The boy was hit by the mirror on the passenger side of the 2011 Toyota Avalon that Sofnowski-Nichol was driving, according to Willey.
The boy sustained injuries during the accident, but was alert and able to converse with police officers while waiting for the ambulance to transport him to a local hospital, Willey said. He was admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, which included a broken collar bone, bruised lung, a concussion and a possible fractured heel, according to Tammy Shorts, the boys aunt.
The motorist that hit the boy did stop and was cited for passing a stopped school bus.
