  • The Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base will officially receive a giant C-5A cargo aircraft into its inventory in a special ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
The event will be followed two days later by a program honoring all veterans, scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
The C-5, tail number 69-0014, was assigned to Dover in 1974 when it was used to demonstrate the feasibility of launching a nuclear missile from a cargo aircraft. The plane went on to serve in several Air Force units following the successful demonstration; its last assignment was to the 164th Airlift Wing of the Tennessee National Guard.
Saturday’s ceremony will transfer the aircraft from the Guard to the museum, making it the first C-5 ever to be put on public display.
Members of the public are invited to the dedication ceremony, which will be followed by tours through the aircraft. Visitors should plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m. and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as seating is limited.
Although the museum normally is closed on Mondays, this coming week will be an exception.
On Monday, Nov. 11, the museum will present a Veterans Day program featuring special guest retired U.S. Air Force Col. Richard B. Harper as well as patriotic selections played by the Milford Community Band.
Gates will open at 9 a.m., with limited seating beginning at 9:50 a.m. The program, which will take place inside the museum hangar, will begin at 11 a.m. with posting of the colors.
The museum’s collection of static aircraft will be open until 2:45 p.m.
For more information, visit www.amcmusuem.org, check the museum’s Facebook page or Twitter site, or call 677-5938.
The museum is on Del. Route 9, south of Dover Air Force Base. Admission and parking are free, and military identification is not required.
