  • Downtown Milford, Inc., is piggybacking off its popular St. Patrick's Day pub crawl and will brew up a new event with the inaugural "DMI Toasting The Town Fall Crawl" on Nov. 27.
    What is it
Modeled after the annual St. Patrick's pub crawl, the Fall Crawl serves as another entertaining initiative to draw folks to invade and stimulate businesses in downtown. The Fall Crawl features select restaurants and pubs offering food or drink specials to people wearing the event's maroon and gold, long-sleeved T-shirts. People will receive a checkmark on the back of their shirt after each business they visit, and the goal is for folks to hit up every business.
In contrast to the St. Patty's pub crawl, DMI is specifically targeting a younger audience for the Fall Crawl.
"The target market consists of graduates of Milford High who are coming back for Thanksgiving," said Lee Nelson, executive director of DMI. "It's a great way for us to bring a younger demographic into the downtown for a special occasion."
"The event is a huge reunion," said Sara Pletcher, volunteer chairwoman for the Fall Crawl. "People come back from college and go home for the holiday, and the bars are already packed [Thanksgiving eve], and Downtown Milford wanted to have a part in that."
In keeping with the town's slogan of "River Town, Art Town, Home Town," the Fall Crawl will reflect the latter.
"We try to have each of our events focus on one aspect of our branding, and this one focuses on the hometown aspect," Nelson said. "It brings everybody into the center of town for the evening."
    'Check' them out
You'll have the opportunity to get your Fall Crawl T-shirt checked off by the following participating businesses: Arena's (located at 200 NE Front St.), Longshots Sports Bar & Grill (located at 207 B NE Front St.), Abbott's Grill (located at 249 NE Front St.), Georgia House Restaurant (located at 18 S. Walnut St.), Park Place Restaurant and Lounge (located at 5 N. Washington St.) and Mispillion River Brewing (which will host the Fall Crawl at Abbott's Grill).
T-shirts will be sold at each business, and only 100 total will be available. Shirts will also be sold at Dolce Bakery & Coffee Shop (located at 36 N. Walnut St.), although Dolce won't be open during the Fall Crawl. Shirts are $21 for sizes small through extra-large, and $26 for double extra-large and triple extra-large sizes.

"We're really excited," said Nicole Horner, general manager of Arena's. "We have a phenomenal draft lineup, and it will be a great way to showcase to some of the people who haven't been in our restaurant yet."
Mispillion River Brewing will have free tastings from its selection of IPA and stout beers on the day before Fall Crawl at Abbott's Grill, starting at 3 p.m. During the Fall Crawl, Mispillion River Brewing will offer the same selection of beers, but with a fee.
Eric Williams, co-owner of Mispillion River Brewery, looks forward to diving into Milford's pub-crawl scene.
"We believe that Mispillion River Brewery is Milford's brewery," Williams said. "So becoming a part of the events that support our town, we're really proud of that."
