  • Milford Public Library is partnering with the Milford Lions Club to offer a humanities lecture series this fall, with the second lecture held Oct. 11.
    The second lecture will be held at the library at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 featuring Michael Dixon presenting “Pass the Rum: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition.” The program is detailed look at the historical attempt to regulate the consumption of alcohol, centuries before the so-called Noble Experiment of the 1920s. The presentation by Dixon will include national and state perspectives and colorful stories of rum runners, moonshiners, bathtub gin, complicated politics, organized crime, outgunned lawmen and the temperance movement. The series will include four more lectures to be held in November and continuing January through March.
