  • Area residents and visitors wishing to dine out now have one less place to eat in the city of Dover.
Rumors that had been floating around the city for the past several days proved true as Dover's Uno Chicago Grill, located next to the entrance to the Dover Mall, shut its doors at the close of business Sunday, Sept. 29.
Handmade signs inscribed "Closed" were posted on both entrance doors Monday morning.
Contacted at the restaurant, owner John Stant said he's been in poor health lately, but did not specifically link his physical condition to the decision to shutter the popular restaurant, which he had run for more than a quarter-century.
"It's been a good run," he said, declining to offer further comment.
City of Dover Director of Economic Development Bill Neaton said he regretted the loss of the restaurant.
"I've known John for years, and I'm truly sorry to see that restaurant close down," he said.
"Any time a family restaurant like that shuts down, employees are impacted," Neaton added. "I don't know how many employees he had, but when you lose your job it's a tragic event. It will have a negative impact, but I'm sure they're good employees and they will find jobs."
