A 20-year-old Milford woman was arrested on Sept. 25 after a month-long investigation regarding an incident that involved an infant victim suffering severe burns.
Detectives with the Milford Police Department Criminal Division discovered that 20-year-old Chantel M. Correa was the caregiver of a 13-month-old infant victim at a residence located in Brightway Commons apartment complex during the month of August, said Milford Police Department spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
Investigation revealed that Correa was also the caregiver of a 2-year-old at the time, Young said.
On Aug. 28, detectives responded to Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital on Aug. 28 after receiving a report of the 13-month-old victim sustaining second- and third-degree burns on 48 percent of its body, Young said.
The incident occurred when Correa provided the 2 year old with a hair dryer in order to dry damp clothing and left the two children in a room together for several minutes, Young said.
The infant victim was transported to Crozier Burn Center in Pennsylvania for treatment and was listed in stable condition.
Correa was charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree child abuse for neglect with serious physical injury. She was arraigned and released on a $22,000 unsecured bond.
