  • A 29-year-old Wilmington woman was arrested by the Milford Police Department Aug. 28 for a prior incident in which the suspect allegedly received a check from a local church under false pretenses.
Investigation revealed that on May 13, Wilmington resident Sherrie Gibbs contacted local church clergy, posing as a landlord needing rent assistance for a tenant, said Milford Police spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
Gibbs was provided a check from the church clergy, and was later revealed to be a scam, Young said.
Gibbs also had an active warrant out of Newark Alderman’s Court.
Gibbs was arrested Aug. 28 and charged with theft false pretense under $1,500. She was arraigned and released on a $600 unsecured bond.
