  • Harrington Police have arrested a local man, identified as Stephen M. Freeman, 24, in response to a child abuse complaint.
Freeman was taken into custody Aug. 27 after turning himself in at Harrington Police headquarters, said police spokesman Lt. Earl Brode.
The case began Aug. 21 with a report from the Division of Family Services that notified the Harrington Police about a possible instance of child abuse. Officers from the Criminal Investigative Unit, with the assistance of personnel from the Child Advocacy Center conducted the investigation, Brode said.
Their work indicated the child had been assaulted at least once, the result being non-life threatening injuries to the child's face.
Police then obtained a warrant for Freeman's arrest.
Freeman was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released from custody after posting a $1,500 secured bond.
The child has been placed in the custody of other family members, Brode said.
