  • Barbara Mattis, a current resident of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 63 on July 30, 2013, following a valiant battle with ovarian cancer for more than fifteen years. She was the loving and devoted wife of Arnold E. Mattis for 30 years at the time of her passing. Barbara was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the late Eugene and Margaret Rondeau. She has 3 siblings, including sisters Rose Cardi of East Greenwich, RI and Rosalind Aronne of Warwick, RI, and a brother Kenneth Rondeau of East Falmouth, MA. She was blessed with several nieces and nephews. Barbara met her husband, a career Naval Officer, in Oakland, CA in 1980 while she was a flight attendant for World Airways. Subsequent to her marriage, Barbara held positions in legal firms, banking, and real estate sales and development. With her husband, she lived in several cities around the country including San Francisco, Washington, DC, San Jose, CA, Chicago, Dallas and Portland, ME. Her passions were traveling, collecting and watching classic movies, reading old novels, gardening and bird watching. She was enormously gentle, kind and thoughtful of others throughout her life, and tenderly loved her 3 cats. She is survived by her husband, mother, sisters and brother. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934. There was a Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara on Wednesday, August 7, at 10:00 am in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Relatives and friends were invited.
