  • Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital has opened a new lactation room just in time for World Breastfeeding Awareness Week, held from Aug. 1 through Aug. 7.
The new lactation room, which is available to all nursing mothers, allows current employees a private area to either breastfeed their baby or pump during break. The room meets requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act/
“This room is important for many reasons, the most important of all being that breast milk is best for babies,” said Bayhealth Lactation Services Program Coordinator Gail Smith in a press release. “Breastfeeding mothers are healthier, and have a decreased risk of developing certain cancers and other disorders. It also saves money and provides savings on health care costs.”
Bayhealth also offers educational classes before and after the birth of a child, as well as bi-monthly support groups for mothers and babies of all ages. Out-patient consults are also available by phone or office visit.
