Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a four-wheeler and a Nissan pickup truck that occurred in Ellendale on July 28.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. as the operator of a Honda Rubicon four-wheeler, 22-year-old Ellendale resident Frederick J. Everitt, was driving southbound on Webbs Road approaching Route 16. Everitt, failing to remain stopped, turned eastbound on State Route 16 in front of a 1997 Nissan pickup truck, operated by 23-year-old Ellendale resident David R. MacGregor, which hit the rear of the four-wheeler and ejected Everitt into the roadway, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Everitt was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
MacGregor and his 27-year-old passenger were properly restrained and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital and released.
Troopers continued to investigate this crash. State Route 16 at Webbs Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. Alcohol may have been a factor on behalf of the ATV operator, Fournier said.
