Efforts are now underway to raise money for Delaware's only BMX track in Milford.
First State BMX in Milford is teaming up with TriSports Events to stage the first-ever Bumps-n-Jumps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 3, at 9:00 am.Proceeds will be used for much-needed track maintenance and to prepare the track for an upcoming Nationals event in September.
BMX bicycling promotes a fun activity in a clean, wholesome environment, and it is also the newest Olympic sport.
There will be pre and post-race festivities, plus overall, age group and walker awards, and a free Kiddie K race for children ten and under.Immediately after the 5K, children may race their bikes on the track, so runners and walkers can see what BMX is all about.In addition, anyone who wants to try BMX may do so without charge.Bikers are asked to bring a long sleeve shirt, long pants and closed toe shoes for protection.
First State BMX will provide loaner bikes and helmets for free.Participants can pre-register at www.trisportsevents.com.Race day registration is also available, starting at 8:00 am. The track is located on 1045 North Walnut Street in Milford, next to Milford High School.Registration is $25 on event day.First State BMX is a non-profit organization.
