  • The Milford 13-14-YO all-stars fell behind early and eventually lost to the MOT all-stars 15-5 Tuesday night in the Junior Division championship game that was played at Middletown's Silver Lake sports complex.
Milford surrendered seven runs in the top of the first inning, and the team was not able to catch up with the hot hitting MOT squad.
"That big first inning took a lot of pressure off of our backs, and it put us in the driver's seat. We scored those seven big runs and never looked back," said MOT head coach Vince Green.
After the tough first inning, MOT would continue the offensive onslaught by scoring two runs on two hits in the second inning, one run on three hits in the fourth, and capping the game with five more tallies in the top of the sixth.
Meanwhile, MOT's pitching kept Milford at bay, allowing only three runs in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the fifth.
"We have plenty of pitching, and a lot of teams underestimated us, and I think we were fortunate to have a good group of pitchers. Again, it's all about the players and it was a great team effort," said Green.
The MOT All-Stars now advance to the Junior Division State Tournament this weekend as the District One champions. They will play the District Two and Three champs, from Sussex and New Castle Counties, for the opportunity to become state titlists.
