  • Hollywood will hit the streets of Milford during this year's annual Milford Community Parade scheduled for October 16.
This year's "Hollywood Fever" theme, originated by 18-year-old parade committee member Samantha Gray, illustrates how this fall holiday celebration has evolved since its 1939 inception.
"[Samantha Gray] suggested something with pizzazz, bling, stars, and red carpet," Charles Gray said in a press release. "We encourage all of our participants to adopt the theme and those with the best presentation or adaptation of the theme are eligible for parade trophies. Participants have been very creative and challenge one another year after year to be the best and most creative."
The parade highlights local musical talents and features multiple marching bands, university and high school bands, civic and business floats and community involvement. According to a press release, attendance has reached 30,000 people in previous years and 10 bands have already signed up to participate this fall.
"I wanted the children to hear and see how music is played in unison to create uplifting and harmonious sounds," said parade chairperson Charles Gray in a press release. "Some of us can pick up an instrument and play perfectly. Others must learn and practice, practice, practice, to hit the right note. Music makers are performing artists no matter what age."
Previous parades have also hosted more unique participants, like an airplane and an elephant, and last year's cattle march.
The annual Milford Community Parade is hosted by Milford Community Parades, Inc., a nonprofit organization that raises funding for the event through community fundraisers and sponsorships.
While it is suggested that business entries make a contribution or sponsorship to participate in the parade, there is no fee required to participate, whether it's a business, civic organization, family or individuals.
