In celebration of the fifth anniversary of Milford's Delaware Hospice Center, hundreds of local and out of state residents gathered for the 5K Run and Family Fun Walk on July 10.
Delaware Hospice, founded in 1982, is the only nonprofit hospice in the state, according to its Web site, and focuses on everything from symptom management to spiritual support.
About 280 people pre-registered for the 5K event, with an additional 140 signing up the day of the event.
With individual registrations at $20, household registrations at $50, and more than 20 business sponsors, Delaware Hospice Center raised approximately $20,000 from the event, according to Assistant Director of Development Peggy Dolby.
Participants from age three to 82 ran, jogged or walked the 3.1-mile track around the Delaware Hospice Center, through the business park and back again.
"It's awesome that people are so giving at a time like this," Dolby said. "It's an unbelievable feeling."
