  • The Milford all-stars scored seven runs in the first inning, and they played solid baseball the next five innings to defeat the MOT all-stars 11-2 in the 10-11-year-old Little League District 1 championship game Friday night at the MaryDel baseball complex in Hartley. The victory marked Milford's fourth consecutive divisional title.
In addition to some early timely hitting, Milford was aided by several defensive miscues by MOT.
"Our team played pretty solid defense all season and during the tournament, but we mishandled the baseball in that first inning," said MOT coach Dan Roberts. "But let's give credit to Milford, they played very well tonight and took advantage of their opportunities," he said.
Once Milford build a healthy lead, the team's pitching took over the game. MOT pushed across one run in each of the third and fourth innings, but Milford scored two in the top of the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth to put the game out of reach.
Milford pitchers, starter Kadin Hudson and reliever Brandon Schlabach were dominant, accounting for 15 outs, as Hudson struck out seven batters and Schlabach racked up eight strikeouts in the six inning game.
"We hit the ball well tonight," said Milford coach Thomas Wallace, "we were fortunate to play well tonight both offensively and defensively. We did this tonight as a team, and we couldn't have done it without all of my players and my coaches." Wallace also added he wanted to thank all of the parents and the Milford community for their support all season and during the tournament.
