Milford Police have arrested two men on various drug charges following a month-long investigation.
The pair, identified as Kyle M. Bitler, 25, of Ellendale and Josh Abraham, 28, of Milford, were arrested June 18, said Milford Police Department spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
Police had conducted a traffic stop on the pair in the rear parking lot of a store in the 900 block of North DuPont Highway after they had made an alleged drug transaction at another location, Young said. As the car stopped, the two jumped out and tried to run away with police and Milford K-9s in pursuit.
Bitler was caught by the dog and bitten, but resisted by trying to put his hands in the dog's mouth. Bitler continued to resist as officers tried to take him into custody and was subdued using a Taser device. A Milford officer was injured during the struggle, Young said.
Abraham was taken into custody later.
Police recovered 78 bags of heroin and an undisclosed amount of United States currency from Bitler and Abraham, Young said.
The injured officer was taken to Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
Bitler was released back into police custody after treatment for his injuries.
Both men were charged with possession a controlled substance (heroin) in Tier 3 quantity, manufacturing, delivery, or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (heroin), resisting arrest with force or violence that injures a peace officer and second-degree conspiracy.
Abraham also was charged with resisting arrest.
Bitler was jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond; Abraham also was committed to SCI in default of a $42,750 secured bond.
