  • Two Milford residents were arrested Saturday night following an apparent fight in which one individual punched and the other stabbed.
Officers were responding to a report of a fight in the 300 block of North Street when they also were contacted by representatives from Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital that a victim from the fight was being treated there, said police spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
An investigation showed the two persons, identified as Clarence E. Young, 46, and Melissa M. Fortt, 43, had been involved in a physical domestic dispute, Det. Young said. Although Clarence Young had initially been reported as a victim, the investigation showed he had allegedly punched Fortt in the face; she reportedly then grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed Young in the buttocks. She fled the scene, but was later taken into custody by a Milford PD canine unit.
Fortt was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.
She was jailed at the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution in default of a $12,000 secured bond.
Clarence Young was admitted to the hospital in serious condition; he was arrested upon his release on Sunday and charged with a single count of third-degree assault. He was released from custody on a $500 secured bond.
