Kimberly Cole, Milford Middle School nurse, was given the All Star Educator of the Month award for the month of May by Delaware State Education Association, with support from 94.7 WDSD.

Cole was nominated for the award by Melanie Subers, whose son Jaxson has severe asthma and was homebound for three months. When Jaxson returned to school, Cole kept an eye on him, Melanie Subers said.

“She takes the time and makes the effort during her day to make sure that he is not wheezing or out of breath,” Melanie Subers said. “I can call her anytime, and she is so attentive. Mrs. Cole goes above and beyond so that my child can learn safely, and that makes her an All-Star in Education.”

On Friday students from the Nightingale Club, which Cole advises, were joined by Milford Middle School administrators and DSEA representative Pamela Nichols to surprise Cole by presenting her with an award during the end of the year Nightingale celebration. Cole was presented with a certificate, a stuffed Cat in the Hat and a Dr. Seuss-themed lunch box.

Cole is the first school nurse to be recognized in the All Star Educator of the Month program, which was started last fall.

“It’s such an honor,” Cole said. “I feel it’s just my job. I do the same for Jaxson as I do for all of my kids. It’s wonderful to be recognized.”
