In what may be a first, a freestyle routine on Monday's final performance round of ABC's Dancing With the Stars - the passionate, intimate contemporary routine performed by Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough - was so terrific it would fit right in on TV's best dancing showcase, Fox's So You Think You Can Dance. As Stars ends its run, with a two-hour finale (Tuesday, 9/8c) welcoming back the season's entire cast - including Wynonna Judd, who'll perform "I Want to Know What Love Is" - the mirrorball ceremony overlaps with a two-hour audition episode of So You Think You Can Dance (8/7c), which is what you should watch if you want to know what dance is in all of its variety.

TUESDAY'S TOP PICK: What's TV's true history channel? Not cable's History, which on this given Tuesday features a disposable reality lineup including repeats of Pawn Stars, Counting Cars and American Restoration. There was a time you might have found programming as remarkable and memorable as tonight's first-rate PBS presentation The Ghost Army (check tvguide.com listings), Rick Beyer's entrancing documentary about a top-secret WWII military unit comprised of artists and engineers who describe themselves as "Cecil B. DeMille warriors." Their mission: to deceive the German enemy through illusions - from sound effects and phony radio transmissions to inflatable tanks as decoys - whatever it took to trick their adversaries to misjudge the location and size of the Allied troops. "It's amazing, the fakery we were able to perpetrate upon the enemy," says a camouflage specialist, one of 19 surviving veterans of the "Ghost Army" who help narrate this fascinating story in lively anecdotal manner. Many of these creatively gifted men sketched their way along the front lines, from Normandy across Europe, and their drawings provide vivid illustrations to underscore their bravery. No better way to get a jump-start on this Memorial Day weekend.
THE TUESDAY GUIDE: NBC's Grimm wraps its second season (10:01/9:01c), in anticipation of moving back to Fridays for year 3, with a new wave of "undead" threatening Portland. ... As a warm-up to next week's return of The Bachelorette, ABC presents a special recalling The Bachelor's Funniest Moments (8/7c). I always thought those were called the "proposals." ... In our ongoing series of examples of how there's just too much TV on TV, we warn you against Oxygen's Bad Girls All Star Battle (9/8c), in which 14 of the baddest bad girls from past seasons of The Bad Girls Club face off in physical and allegedly mental challenges, with Ray J presiding as the overqualified host.
