The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Take a Kid Fishing program invites budding anglers ages six through 15 and a parent or guardian to come out and cast a line on May 18 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Abbotts Mill Nature Center in Milford.
Take a Kid Fishing teaches young people fundamental fishing skills and conservation concepts. Along with angling, this free admission fishing day will also feature activity stations and prizes. Participants may want to pack a lunch.
While Take a Kid Fishing is free of charge, entrance fees are in effect at Delaware State Park host sites. For each vehicle, the cost is $3 with Delaware tags and $6 for out-of-state tags. Free admission passes will be available at the gate for pre-registered participants.
To ensure enough supplies are on hand for the program, pre-registration is required. Contact Tess Belcher at (302) 735-8656 or at email@example.com. To pre-register online, visit www.dnrec.delaware.gov.
Parents and guardians who wish to fish must have a current Delaware fishing license and Fisherman Information Network number, both of which are required by state law for anglers over the age of 16, but are not required for those under the age of 16. To purchase a fishing license online, visit www.fw.delaware.gov/fisheries. To obtain a free FIN number, visit www.delaware-fin.com or call 1-800-432-9228.
