The Grand, Delaware's cherished cultural center, presents several irresistible acts in the next two weeks.
STEPHEN SONDHEIM - May 8 - The man is undoubtedly the greatest living composer lyricist. Anyone listening to his man 'in concert' is not merely honored by being in the same room but also will learn about his passion for his craft, lessons that can be transferred to whatever craft is yours. "I love theatre because it is living art, it is living clay", he exudes. " A motion picture, once in the can is done! With theatre you can change something that is not working, whether it be in rehearsals or if a new actor is substituted."
The man is profound and articulate. Guests will learn a lot about themselves sitting with this man for 2 hours.
AMY SCHULER - May 9 - This perky, sweet Reese Witherspoon look-alike (Well, Amy is an American citizen, just like Reese said she was when confronted by the policeman). Schuler is everywhere and The Grand management had the foresight to book her early. " I am so excited. I finally slept with my high school crush. But....now he expects me to go to his graduation! Yeah, sure, like I know where I'm gonna be in 3 years, right!"
MANHATTAN TRANSFER - May 19 - The quartet that defines harmony. They have been around for decades. On the evening of the 19th, the four will be doing “The Living Room Sessions", very intimate shows with just the four and their longtime pianist and music director. These stripped-down sets will be interspersed with stories and some hopeful material that the group has neither haven’t done for a while or have since deconstructed.
The Grand has videos of all their performers on their site
OPERADELAWARE - MACBETH - May 5 @ 2pm, May 11 + 12 @ 7:30
Murder, mayhem and melancholy....and that's only in scene one! Then prepare yourself for paranoia, prophecies and poltergeists. Foul is fair and fair is foul in this masterpiece by Verdi.
Verdi and the Bard -- the results are among the most remarkable combinations of great drama and great music ever created.
