  • A 49-year-old Millsboro man faces numerous charges following an investigation involving the alleged neglect and abuse of his 69-year-old mother.
Police said the investigation began on April 10 after a senior social worker with the Delaware Health and Social Services Adult Protective Services was conducting a follow-up on an active case involving the neglect of the woman, who became impaired as of September 2012 due to an undisclosed illness. Police said her son, David T. Lee, who resides at the residence, was her primary caregiver.
Adult Protective Services has had an open case with the family since October 2012 and since then, police said, Lee has been provided written instructions accompanied by actual practical demonstrations on how to provide care for his mother. Police said Lee was also assisted by nurses who responded to the residence on a daily basis. Police said Lee became uncooperative with the visiting nurses and noncompliant with caring for his mother in the proper manner, ultimately resulting in injury to her due in part by the neglect.
Police said the woman was removed from the residence on April 10 by emergency services personnel and was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital, where she is currently admitted. Police obtained a warrant for Lee's arrest, but were unable to locate him on April 10.
Lee was taken into custody on April 11 around 12:40 p.m. following a traffic stop on School Lane. Police said Lee was driving erratically and a driving under the influence investigation ensued. Lee was transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with second degree assault, intentional abuse of an infirm adult, fourth offense DUI, possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, no proof of insurance, no proof of registration, and failure to remain in a single lane.
Lee was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute on $16,200 cash only bond, and is to have no contact with his mother.
